Untangling AI Education Narratives

Discussions on “AI Education” often feel tangled, confusing, and mixed. I spend A LOT of time thinking about what could help structure such dialogues. I wrote up my thoughts and posted them on arXiv.
I argued that our debates, too often, mix together concerns about pedagogy, operations, curriculum, and the future of work without a clearly articulated vision and framework. In this paper, I propose a taxonomy to organize the diverse narratives of AI education and situate them within the enduring mission of higher education: advancing knowledge.
The paper argues that the most consequential challenges lie at the level of curriculum and disciplinary purpose. Pedagogical innovation provides a strategic entry point, but meaningful reform depends on faculty journeys that connect AI literacy, pedagogy, curriculum design, and research integration — all aligned with the mission of knowledge.
